We are Green

Décor Rail through its suppliers are committed to sustainability and a greener future, creating a product which is 100% recyclable and manufactured from about 75% - 85% recycled material. By simply selecting stainless steel over non-recyclable alternatives, companies and individuals are taking an active step toward reducing their carbon footprint.

The manufacturing run-off is non-toxic, consumes relatively low amounts of energy and emits low levels of emissions and waste during production. Water used during the production of stainless steel is constantly recycled in the plant. Stainless steel requires no painting or coatings which are normally environmentally harmful products. Stainless steel is being utilized and specified more and more by Building Developer’s, Architects and Specifiers as one of the most environmentally friendly construction materials available today.

About Stainless Steel

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is an alloy of Iron with a minimum of 10.5% Chromium. Chromium produces a thin layer of oxide on the surface of the steel known as the 'passive layer'. This prevents any further corrosion of the surface. Increasing the amount of Chromium gives an increased resistance to corrosion.

Stainless steel also contains varying amounts of Carbon, Silicon and Manganese. Other elements such as Nickel and Molybdenum may be added to impart other useful properties such as enhanced formability and increased corrosion resistance.

Steel is the world’s most recycled material, with more steel recycled annually than aluminum, glass and paper combined. Stainless steel is 100% recyclable with no loss in quality.

Although stainless steel is much more resistant to corrosion than ordinary carbon or alloy steels, if a particular grade is used in the wrong atmospheric conditions it can corrode. In normal atmospheric or water based environments, stainless steel will not corrode as demonstrated by domestic sink units, cutlery, saucepans and work-surfaces and the use of grade 304 is usually recommended.  In more aggressive conditions, like coastal regions the basic types of stainless steel may corrode and a more highly alloyed stainless steel can be used such as grade 316.

Why it's the material of choice for railings?

  1. Maintenance Free
Stainless steel is virtually maintenance free once the correct grade is used in the right atmospheric conditions, and can be wiped clean of dirt and stains without the use of bleaches or harsh chemicals which have negative environmental impacts.
  2. Corrosion Resistance
Not only can resist corrosion in atmospheric and pure water environments, but also can resist corrosion in most acids, alkaline solutions, and chlorine bearing environments.
  3. Aesthetic Appearance
The bright, easily maintained surface of stainless steel provides a modern and attractive appearance
  4. Longevity
Due to its durability and corrosive resistance, stainless steel has a much longer life span than other materials, thereby requiring less maintenance and reducing replacement costs .This increases the material usage efficiency and lengthens the life cycle of our product, insuring that you will never need to replace or repair your railing. As a result of this when the total life cycle costs are considered, stainless steel railing is often the least expensive material option.
